Moelogan Fawr

Llion and Sian Jones have been farming cattle and sheep in Moelogan Fawr for the past 3 years. They face challenging conditions farming on highland ranging from 1000ft to heights up to 1500ft!

As part of the community of farms taking part in the Farming Connect programme, they have had the opportunity to try out some of our very own dewin tech devices to help transform the security of their farm, equipment and livestock.

In addition to livestock, Llion and Sian have an onshore wind farm on their land, which is run by a local organisation and is used to produce a source of clean, renewable energy. Due to the need for frequent maintenance of the turbines, the organisation is granted right of way through the Moelogan Fawr land.

They were concerned that unwanted guests were accessing the windfarm through a roadside gate that wasn’t visible from their courtyard. As workers visited the wind farm to conduct maintenance work, there was a risk of gates being left open by the team. To ensure the land remained secure with so many visitors, Llion and Sian decided to invest in the dewin open:close

The open:close device was attached to the gate and works through the LoRaWAN gateway, which was set up on their farm by Farming Connect.

“The device was very quick and easy to install. It’s been installed onto our laptop dashboard, despite not going on the computer often, it’s possible to have the notifications through text message straight to the phone, which is great as it sends a message through instantly to say when the gate opens and closes!”

Llion and Sian are just one example of the many ways that the dewin open:close can help secure your farm or business. Having had numerous instances of unknown vehicles gaining access to the wind farm and their land, the pair have a new-found peace of mind, knowing that they will be alerted by the device at the first sign of trouble with the roadside gate.

Our dewin open:close devices are widely available with many customers already finding new ways to utilise its countless benefits.
