dewin moo

Dewin Moo is an automatic detection system that supports farmers in the monitoring of calving behaviour during the calving season. The system provides farmers with an improved awareness of cow and calf welfare via smartphone while improving farm labour efficiency.

Calving is a key event in the farming calendar and the continuous monitoring of a cow’s condition is a major task for farmers. With the goal of delivering live and healthy calves and cows, the Dewin Moo is the perfect support system for famers throughout the calving period. Its ability to automatically monitor the cow’s behaviour / condition in real time through the use of existing CCTV systems allows farmers to keep on top of their herd from their smartphone.

Dewin Moo is designed to monitor other aspects of cow behaviour in order to aid farmers manage their herd. Dewin Moo will be able to detect heat behaviour and lameness.

Thanks to its AI based image processing abilities and complex algorithms, the Dewin Moo can identify objects and actions of cows through images or videos. Through behavioural classifications and algorithms, the system will quickly notify the farmer once the movement frequency threshold has been met. This enables the farmer to leave his herd in the care of the Dewin Moo while they work elsewhere on the farm.

Dewin Moo is in development thanks to funding provided by the Welsh Government via the Agri-Hack, hosted by M-SParc in March 2021.
